Does anybody else think that getting New Careers is too hard and stressful? For the last few months I have been extremely stressed and irritated. Why? Well it’s because I’ve recently been thinking of Career Ideas and have made a choice on starting up a self employed career in online marketing. The trouble is, with countless bills to pay the swap from my present job isn’t simple, so temporarily I’m working two jobs and have very little free time, and it seems like it will remain this way for a quite a while until I can get plenty clients up and running. So how did I end up in such a tight spot? For those who are interested enough to keep reading, I’ll explain how.
My issues began while employed at a call centre, providing support for a digital television service. The role was unpleasant, the company was horrible to work for and the management all had their pet favourites, separating the other staff with the worst shifts and more calls to answer. As far as Careers go, this couldn’t even be thought of as one, I can’t picture many people continuing in a role like that. Things got even worse there and I ended up losing my place there, the worst part was, I had fairly recently bought a new car on finance and had a trip to the Canary Islands coming up in 1 month time.
So as you can probably tell, me and my fiancé were not doing too well for money and I found my stress levels escalating. Finding New Careers during the recession was not a friendly task, but I thankfully found a place in online marketing. The career was perfect and just the thing I had been looking for, but more trouble ahead, there was initial training needed. This was going to delay my ability to earn money and even after finishing the training, money wouldn’t come in right away, it takes a while to achieve results with a client. I was forced to revisit the job hunt, not for New Careers, I wasn’t going to let this opportunity go. No, the job search was for something temporary to earn some money in the mean time.
So I eventually found another call centre role, not too tough considering there is hundreds out there. However, that “mean time” is taking longer than anticipated. Six months down the line I’m still in the call centre since there’s just not enough time in the day to work two jobs. Whoever said 8 hour working days was a bright idea surely didn’t work them himself. My Career Ideas haven’t changed however, I’m determined to make the online marketing career work out, it’s just tiring not having any spare time and not having any money thanks to the debts that piled up while out of work.
If there’s anything to take in from all of this, it should be to be balanced with your finances and don’t quit on your Careers if you discover something you definitely want to do. I understand it can be easy sometimes to simply take out credit for home improvements, a holiday or a car, but whenever you can, try to save up instead. It’s always a good idea to have as little debt as possible as you can never predict when the worst will happen.
