I am at home, working, as I Work From Home. My partner is out in my vehicle, as his is in the garage, taking my stepson back to his mum. The trip should only last half an hour. I receive a mobile phone call from my partner 20 minutes later – he has crashed my car. Luckily nobody is harmed, but the car is a mess. It is Christmas time. The weather is bad. Apparently there have been many car crashes recently and the insurance company are not positive that they can plan to collect my car or give us a courtesy vehicle until after Xmas.

There is one thing we do not need to worry about here – we both Work From Home, so we do not have the worry of how we will get to the office each day. Although it is a bother not to have a car to pop to the shops, and there may be some Christmas day rearrangements to manage, we can continue with our work without issue.

My Internet Business does sometimes include visits to my clients, but fortunately I had none booked, so I would not need to trouble anybody because of this accident. Most of my work involves Online Jobs and these can be done very easily without the need for a car.

As it happens, the garage who were given the job of repairing my car could come out the next day and pick it up, leaving me a courtesy car at the same time. Again, the fact I Work From Home was a bonus, as I did not need to request time from the office to take delivery of the courtesy car, or to see the safe recovery of my own car. The garage merely called as the driver was leaving and I was able to meet him to sort out the handover. Within 15 minutes all was completed. No more time than a coffee break would take in an office, but had I been working away from my home I would in all probability have needed to take a whole morning or afternoon off work to sort this out.

Back into my house and carry on with my Online Jobs. My Internet Business was not at all put under pressure because of this misfortune. I do not know how long my motor will be in the garage, but it is not a problem. When they phone to advise that my car is back to being repaired and they are ready to return it to me, I shall once again be able to walk outside, check the car out, sign the papers and return indoors to carry on with my tasks.

The courtesy car does need to be returned with fuel and washed, so I may have to spend a little while away from the house, sorting that out, but it is certainly better than having to take yet another day off work at short notice, which could inconvenience many of my co-workers.

Definitely, the fact that I Work From Home has been an added bonus and caused me less upset in these circumstances than would have been the case if I was employed by a firm which required me to be in the office all week. I now just look forward to the return of my car looking as good as new.
