A stainless steel sink can be easily cleaned and made fresh by giving it some attention. It is very essential to prevent steel from corrosion and for this you need to clean it so that fresh layer of chromium oxide help in protecting it from corrosion.

Stainless steel contains chromium and this chromium combines with atmospheric oxygen to form a thin layer of chromium oxide that protects the stainless steel surface from corrosion. But when this surface is contaminated with dirt, sand or any other harmful material, the protective layer becomes weak and allows corrosion to occur. Hence, your sink needs regular cleaning.

Don’t keep food, beverages and mild steel or cast iron utensils on stainless steel sinks for long hours. If you will do so, it can result into corrosion of steel surface.

Chlorides react very badly with steel and most of soaps, detergents, bleaches and cleansers have some chloride content in it. So never leave soaps and detergents for long time on the surface of stainless steel sink as it can be damaged by it.

Don’t use a steel wool pad for cleaning of steel sink as they have tendency to break apart in small particles and these small particles can become embedded in the surface of sink. These particles will rust the surface.

Standing water on the surface of sink can result into spots, so try to wipe off the water with the help of a clean towel. If your sink is very dirty and oily then clean it with the help of hot and soapy water, you can also use a safe and non abrasive sponge for it. After cleaning remove all the sponge and cleaning pads from surface.

Never leave spilled food and garbage deposits in your sink for long duration as it can spread germs in your sink and utensils. So if you want to be hale and hearty give attention to sink cleaning.
