The households that are located in rain-prone regions need to pay an extra attention towards the maintenance of their roofs. One element that can serve the required purpose is a roof flashing. It is a sheet or sheathing that covers the valleys and voids of the roof.

Since valleys and the voids of the roof are the places susceptible to water accumulation and seepage, they’re equipped with the essential layer of flashing. Hence, it becomes quintessential to make way for such roof flashing when it comes to ensuring a leak-proof setting to your roof.

Kick off the campaign by taking measurements of the roof area and determining the dimensions of the flashing material you would require. Purchase the required length of flashing material and grab tin snips to cut out required pieces from the sheet.

Lay the flashing fragment flat on the roof such that the flashing covers the valley well. The voids as well the junctures of the roof must be enveloped by the flashing. The junctures would include the joining ends of two ridges or sides of the roof.

There are two ways of binding the flashing sheet to the setup. You can either staple the sheet to the roof or nail it down. It is however wise to use stapler to bind the setting as nails could disturb the physical structure of the flashing material. Once the installation of the flashing finishes, your home is assured of a water-proof protection. Envelop the flashing with a fascia board.

After the initial phase of the project is over, move to the next phase of enveloping the flashing setup. Pour liberal amount of tar on the concerned spread and scatter it well. Let the tar solidify and then move ahead with the proceedings.

Now, shingle down the rest of the roof. Nail down shingles one by one and render final touch to the roof. Sometimes, the whole installation process may go wrong with faulty setting of some odd installations. Bring in a pry bar tool to assist you with the detachment of the faulty shingles.

To confirm the success of the project, locate the water molds or leaks on the interior walls and ceilings after a heavy rain.
