Telecommuting positions

For those who do not like to be tied down in the rules and regulations of a regular job, telecommuting positions are the best alternative. These positions refer to employment types where one can work from home or any other location of your preference, and communicate with the office or your employer via telephone calls, fax messages, email messages or any other communication method facilitated by technology. This also means that you may have not even seen your employer’s face and many a times, the company may be located thousands of miles away. Nonetheless, you do get paid for the tasks you perform depending on your salary agreement.

With the right kind of experience in the industry, it is relatively easy to secure a telecommuting position. The internet is the main form of media used by telecommuting companies to announce employment opportunities. Though telecommuting is more suitable for computer programming and writing professions, telecommuting positions can be found in many fields including research, customer service, journalism, marketing and accounting.  Some of the latest areas to use telecommuters are those dealing with data entry operators and home based customer service representatives.

Telecommuting positions can differ according to the industry you are working for. Some telecommuting positions offer 100% virtual employment opportunities wherein your location will be irrelevant and you will never, physically need to see your employer. You will not be required to know the location of the telecommuting company or have to check in at any point of your employment. Some other telecommuting positions have opportunities that require you to work from home, you never really see your employer, but, you may need to go out of your home to complete certain job related tasks. There may also be companies where you will have to visit occasionally in order to sit in on meetings or to attend important functions.

However, bear in mind that not all telecommuting positions posted on the internet are legitimate. The internet is filled with ‘work at home’ scams and ‘get rich quick’ schemes. The best way to identify a scam from a legitimate telecommuting position is to read the taglines carefully. Those that are genuine will have full transparency on the types of jobs available, the business and even the way they will pay you. If the company sounds more like one that sounds too good to be true, then it probably is just that. Running background checks on employers before binding into contracts is very crucial.

  1. I thought that ‘telecommuting’ was more like being employed by a company but being allowed to work out of the office a few days a week. ‘Work at Home’ seemed more like a freelance/contractor situation…it’s confusing when they use the terms interchangeably.

  2. I understand telecommuting as an e-commuting of working from home and enjoys the flexibility of the location and working hours. Telecommuting or more specifically, work from home arrangements improves work-life balance.

  3. As for me, telecommunication jobs are not preferable to work from home. One advantages of it is that the noise from home and the area of working station. Those are some things that I could think of.

Work related on telecommunication really is not that easy to work remote.
